The generation of specialized technicians in this discipline will significantly improve the professional performance of the graduate, both at the public and private levels, meanwhile, it develops the UNLC with specific references in the teaching field. In the region, there is a wide spectrum of potential interested targets in this training, such as those directly involved with this discipline: civil defence agents, volunteer firefighters, provincial firefighters, government officials, administrators, and rural employees, as well as possible students who have a vocation related to the discipline. On-site education is justified since it is a program with an important component of field practice at the local level, where the theoretical foundations can be exemplified.
An entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit will be encouraged, with highly professional ethical behaviour, emphasizing ethical training and the social responsibility that professional actions in environmental matters entail.
Objectives and competencies
- Carry out studies, implement and certify plans or programs related to the prevention and defence of forest and urban-forest fires.
- Integrate technical areas within forest firefighting systems or departments in public or private institutions.
- Organize the planning, direction, execution, and certification of preventing management projects for vegetable fuels such as prescribed burning, pruning, thinning, clearing, cut firebreaks and firebreak areas; as well as treatment of natural residues or from the intervention of man.
- Elaborate surveys and technical documents about the prediction of fire occurrence and behaviour, both before and during fires. This includes behaviour simulation with specific software.
- Generate geo-referenced thematic cartography before, during, and after the emergency.
